Monrovia – On January 25, 2020 Grade 12 students across Liberia attended their first West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) preparatory tutorials. Following the success of the inaugural WASSCE Intervention Project last year, the 2020 tutorials will run until the end of April, supporting students as they prepare for the exams.
Launching the tutorials in Monrovia last month, the Minister of Education, Professor Dr. Ansu Dao Sonii, Sr., spoke with Grade 12 students about their final year of school. Successfully completing WASSCE examinations is an important milestone for students, indicating commitment to their studies and mastery of core skills and knowledge. After careful consideration of students’ views and community expectations, the Ministry has mandated that Grade 12 students must achieve a passing grade in at least three WASSCE subjects in order to be eligible to graduate in 2020.
It is long-standing Ministry policy that Grade 12 graduation is contingent on WASSCE results. Graduation ceremonies, including thanksgiving events and honor programs, must therefore be held after the release of WASSCE results.
